August 5, 2014
Dear Parent(s) and Guardian(s):
On behalf of the Board of Education, our staff, and myself, I want to welcome everyone to the Maplewood Richmond Heights School District for the 2014-15 school year. The start of a new year is exciting for all of us. We have spent the summer eagerly preparing for your student’s return, and we look forward to sharing new learning experiences with each of you. Our first day for K-12 students is Tuesday, August 12 and Tuesday, August 19 for preschool.
In April of this year, we wrote to you sharing the news of our increasing enrollment. Our student population is growing at each of our schools, but the most notable increase is happening at the Elementary School. In just a few short years, the enrollment there has increased nearly 42%.
To help accommodate this growth, we have placed a two-room modular classroom building on the Elementary campus, which will provide much-needed space, maintain our small class sizes, and allow for continued personalized instruction. This new modular building will be open for everyone to tour on Thursday, August 7 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. during the Elementary “Back to School Social.” If you would like a personal tour on another date and time, please feel free to contact our Central Office at (314) 644-4400.
The Board of Education has reconvened the Long-Range Facilities Study Committee comprised of parents, community members, teachers, staff, and administrators. This group has met throughout the summer and looked extensively at long-term solutions to meet the current and future space needs of our students. Based on the committee’s discussions and feedback, the Board of Education is currently exploring a variety of options, which we will be able to share with you later in the school year.
This increased enrollment will not alter our commitment to provide all of our students a top-quality education. Working together with our community, we will maintain high standards and quality educational instruction for our children now, and in the years to come.
Thank you for your continued support of our students and district. I know 2014-15 will be another great year of many successes for our students and community!
Sincerely,
Karen I. Hall
Superintendent
