Individual classroom spelling bees were held in each Maplewood Richmond Heights Elementary classroom in early December. The top speller from each class participated in the school wide MRHE Championship Spelling Bee on January 14, 2015. All spellers demonstrated scholarship by studying a list of over 200 words. Some of the words spelled in the bee were- crucial, nostalgia and hydroponic.
Competition was tight in the last three rounds. James Granger (5th grade), Jackson Corcoran (5th grade) and Alexander Ficken (6th grade) encouraged one other through some challenging spelling rounds. Alexander Ficken won the bee by spelling the word, laudible. He will be representing MRH Elementary in the Scripps Regional Spelling Bee at McKendree University on March 14, 2015.
All of the classroom spelling bee champions will be honored at Friday morning gathering on January 23, 2015, in the gym, at 7:30 a.m. All parents are invited to attend.
