To identify with the Character Education trait of Service to Others, MRH Elementary students and staff will launch the annual Food Drive Winter Service Project on November 18. The drive for canned and boxed food items, will run through December 13th and benefit the MRH School District’s Weekend on Wheels (WOW) program.

“Each year the students participate in a little friendly competition to see which grade level brings in the most items,” says MRHE counselor Mary Darst. She and co-counselor Lesa Thomas coordinate the food drive. The winning grade level will accompany the items to the WOW food pantry. Students will also work pre-packaging items to assist the WOW pantry in preparing rolling cases that are then distributed to MRH families who need them. Representatives from the top-collecting grade-level will take a field trip to discover how a large area food pantry collects and distributes food to smaller pantries.

Students can bring items directly to school to deposit in collection boxes placed in their pod.

RAFFLE AGAINST RUMBLES SPIRIT WEEK:
During the week of December 9 - 13, students can earn one raffle entry per item donated that day. (For Example: 5 items on Tuesday, December 10 = 5 ticket entries to the Tuesday December 10 raffle drawing) Each day a new prize will be announced during the morning broadcast. Some of the raffle prizes donated so far are:

  • Principal for a Day
  • Play Basketball with Mr. Strong
  • Art Club Admission to Session 2
  • Pizza Lunch for You and 3 Friends
  • Gift certificates for Target and local eateries

Drawings will be held daily - and raffle tickets are good for that day of the drawing only. Students may re-enter the drawings each day by bringing more food items. “As Spirit Week draws closer, we will post the daily raffle offerings so students will know what’s coming up!” says Darst.
