As summer heat kicks in and the sun comes out, the MRHE garden becomes more and more abundant with vegetables, herbs, and flowers. However, “...with no cafeteria full of students or Seed to Table classes during June, July and half of August, much of the garden’s bounty risks going to waste,” shared MRHE Garden Coordinator, Laura Tetley. The solution: MRHE Community Basket Wednesday will begin May 29 and be open from 8am to 12pm each Wednesday during summer break.
“We’re hoping to waste less, plus feed more tasty vegetables to our community!” says Tetley. Each Wednesday, the Community Basket will be located just outside the garden gate and full of fresh vegetables. Any MRH community member is welcome to come by and take what they need from the basket. The basket will be available on a first come first serve basis. Visitors are asked to not pick or pull plants directly from the garden. Have a great summer and enjoy those veggies!
