A crowd of just more than 50 people powered through a rainy, windy evening to pose questions to the three candidates running for the Maplewood Richmond Heights School District Board of Education.
The forum in the MRH theatre featured prepared questions by moderator Nelson Mitten and written questions submitted by attendees. Mitten is a sitting board member but has decided not to re-run for his seat following 21 years of service on the board.
The forum was organized by the Hadley Township Democrats organization. School board elections in Missouri are non-partisan.
During the filing period, five candidates submitted their names for the ballot. But two of them, Brad Jackson and Amy Peach, subsequently decided against seeking the two available seats. Voters will still see their names on the ballot.
The remaining candidates' names will appear on the ballot in the order in which they filed. They are:
- Brandi Herndon-Miller, a district parent and an incumbent MRH board member who is re-running for her seat
- Nikylan Knapper, a district parent and PTO activist
- Dale Chambers, a longtime district parent
Polls will be open from 6 a.m. through 7 p.m. on April 2.
