Each building in the Maplewood Richmond Heights School District was paid a visit today by three regional school superintendents, for the purpose of learning how the MRH "metaphors" are applied to daily lessons.
The tour was led by MRH Superintendent Karen Hall. Along for the ride were Dr. Keith Marty, Dr. Chris Gaines and Dr. David Knes, superintendents at Parkway, Mehlville and Valley Park, respectively.
They were here for a firsthand look at MRH's "metaphor" system, where each school bases its learning on a particular theme: the Early Childhood Center is "School as Studio" (emphasizing artistic skills), the Elementary is "School as Museum" (emphasizing organizational thinking via elaborate displays), the Middle School is "School as Expedition" (students take their learning into the real world, especially in terms of sustainability), and the High School is "School as Apprenticeship" (internships and work study opportunities).
